Top Platinum Credit Cards Compared

While platinum credit cards can be considered the ultimate credit card option, not all of them provide the same features.

These cards are designed for people with high incomes, high spending needs and good credit history to help them get the most out of having a credit card.

But it is still important to compare a range of these cards, like the ones below, and find the best one for you.

ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum

With both an American Express and Visa card for the one account, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum gives cardholders the chance to maximise their points and still manage potential costs that can arise from Amex use.

As well as earning up to 1.5 points per dollar with the American Express card and 1 point per dollar with the Visa card, other benefits include overseas travel and medical insurance and ANZ car cover.

These extras add to the potential value of this card and, for the right person, could offset the $295 annual fee cardholders will have to pay.

American Express Platinum Reserve

The American Express Platinum Reserve card is packed full of benefits and comes with a membership rewards program that offers 1.5 points for every dollar spent on the card.

The privileges include an annual complimentary Virgin Australia economy return flight to either an international or domestic location as well as access to over 600 VIP lounges, in 300 cities worldwide.

Cardholders also receive international and domestic travel insurance cover, but the annual fee for this card is higher than the ANZ option, at $395, so the value will depend on a cardholder’s lifestyle and needs.

Citibank Clear Platinum

One of the biggest drawcards for the Citibank Clear Platinum card is that it is also a low interest option, with an ongoing purchase rate of 11.99% p.a. plus platinum benefits.

While the extras for this card are not as extensive as others, it does offer complimentary international travel insurance, purchase cover and extended warranties as well as exclusive entertainment offers through Visa Platinum Privileges.

The annual fee of $99 is also lower than other options and halved to $49 for the first year.

Citibank Emirates Platinum

Another frequent flyer option, this card is linked to the Emirates Skywards loyalty program and gives cardholders the chance to earn up to 4 Skywards Miles per $1 spent on the card.

With complimentary insurance, access to Emirates lounges around the world and a chauffeured drive to or from the airport, this card is a great option for people who want something different to the usual Qantas frequent flyer cards and the $229 annual fee is on par with many other card options.

Whatever you are looking for in a platinum card, chances are you will get a better deal by comparing different options. By looking at features and fees for these four cards you should have a better idea of what is out there and how they might work for you.
