American Express Credit Cards

American Express is one of the largest publicly traded companies in the world. Known for their credit cards and Traveler’s Cheques – they are one of the oldest American businesses still around today, and they have never shirked on their commitment to competitive prices and rational options.

American Express was originally founded in 1850 as an express mail business operating out of New York. But they weren’t solely in mail for long, soon American Express became a joint stock corporation, created by a merger between three competing business. Although it was only an average American company at this point, it was already displaying the rapid growth and fiscal sensibility that AmEx is famous for today.

It’s financial services started out as a money order business created to compete with the United States Post office’s money orders. The founders of American Express were frustrated at the difficulty of obtaining cash through the traditional use of letters of credit. This led them to develop Traveler’s Cheques as an alternative, which provided the basis for what would later become one of the largest credit card networks in the world.

Today American Express is the 22nd most valuable brand name in the world, responsible for 24% of all credit card transactions in the United States (the highest of any Credit Card issuer in the world). With a range of credit card options to suit any income, from their debit cards all the way up to their exclusive Centurian Card, American Express enjoys business from all walks of life – and for good reason.

With traditional credit card options like Low Interest, Low Annual Fee, Gold Credit Cards, Platinum Credit Cards and Frequent Flyer options – not to mention some of the most competitive bonus points and award-winning rewards programs in the world – it’s easy to see why American Express enjoys such widespread success.
