Frequent Flyer Cards: Which Airline Should You Choose?

One of the best things about credit card rewards is that they give you the chance to save up for a holiday that might not otherwise be possible, especially with so many different frequent flyer options.

But which airline is the best one for you to base your card search on?

There are a number of airline reward programs tied to different credit cards and providers, so to help you get started here is a look at three different airline options currently available.

Qantas Frequent Flyer Credit Cards

As the most established airline for Australian credit card rewards programs, many people choose Qantas Frequent Flyer options for their rewards.

There are always a number of cards available including those specifically tied to Qantas, like both ANZ Frequent Flyer cards and the HSBC Platinum Qantas card, as well as those with an option for Frequent Flyer points, currently offered by Citibank and St George, among others.

In regards to points, for a domestic flight from Sydney to another Australian capital city you would need at least 12,500 points. With most of these cards offering one Frequent Flyer point per dollar, it all depends on how well you use your cards and the program to get to where you want to go.

Virgin Credit Cards

People who want to fly with Virgin are lucky enough to have options from the Virgin Money sector of the company.

Both the Virgin Flyer and Virgin High Flyer cards allow people to earn Velocity reward points – the first card with a one point per dollar offer and the second card with a 1.25 points per dollar option.

Flights from Sydney to other capital cities start from 9800 points, so it could be a slightly easier reward option for people who do not spend a lot on their cards.

Emirates Skywards Credit Cards

International travellers may want to choose a credit card linked to an international airline, and if that is the case then the Citibank Emirates Platinum card may be ideal.

This credit card earns up to four Skywards Miles per $1 spent and at least 1.5 points on most purchases. International flights start from 25,000 points for a trip to New Zealand and 45,000 for flights to Southeast Asia, so there could be a lot of value in this card for the right person.

No matter who you want to fly with, chances are there is a credit card rewards option that will help you get there. With so many different cards and reward partners available, becoming a jetsetter could be as easy and paying with plastic.
