Flight reward Credit Card Programmes
Let’s not forget the travel rewards available through NAB Bank and Citibank, two flexible programs with some bells and whistles worth having.
NAB Bank offers their Velocity and Velocity Gold cards as both a Visa and an American Express on the same account. The Visa earns one rewards point for every $2 purchase using the card, while the American Express earns 1.5 points and the American Express Gold earns two, giving you the ability to maximise your points earned with the simplicity of one transaction account—and with only one annual fee. To sweeten the deal, they’re also offering 3.99% p.a. on balances transferred from competing credit cards for the first six months the account is opened.
Your NAB points are linked directly to your existing Velocity (Virgin Blue) loyalty program account, earning frequent flyer miles on your everyday spending. These points never expire and there’s no cap on points earned, so you can save them and spend them just as you like.
Velocity points can be redeemed for any seat, on any flight, with Virgin Blue or any of their domestic or international partner airlines, including Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Australia, and Pacific Blue. There’s no blackout period nor seat restrictions. Other Velocity partners for points earning or redemption include accommodations, car hire, parking facilities, charities, cruises, insurance, and shopping. When you’ve got points to spend, the list seems endless!
Citibank Gold, Platinum, and Clear Platinum Visas all offer one rewards point for each dollar spent. These points can be redeemed for the usual shopping, vouchers, and charitable donations. They’re also good for some of the best travel deals around, through the Citibank Take Flight online travel service, which allows you to search, compare, and book flights and accommodations all on the same website. You can pay your way through points, or a combination of points plus pay if you don’t have quite enough to cover your planned holiday.
Or you can transfer your points to your Virgin Blue Velocity rewards or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer accounts, or purchase travel vouchers, car hire certificates, travel accessories, or accommodation packages or vouchers. With Citibank rewards, the possibilities are endless.
With your Platinum card, you can even arrange for all your points to be channeled through to your Qantas loyalty account. That way, you can’t take advantage of Citibank rewards, but your everyday spending will earn Qantas points. They’re your points, and your choice.
So take advantage of your credit card’s flight rewards schemes. Just think about it—all those points, waiting to be earned, and used. It’s enough to ignite the travel bug in anyone!
